Professional development of EFL teachers in Tanzania: Ubinafsi or ujamaa?

This small descriptive study examined the professional development activities of English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers at university in Tanzania, particular their awareness organizations such International Association Teachers Foreign Language and TESOL Association. Basing her inquiry on teaching community practice, researcher used questionnaire, interviews, personal observations. University lecturers were asked about practices, which represented value individualism (ubinafsi Swahili), well interest becoming involved for EFL teachers, illustrated ujamaa, or familyhood. Though they extremely professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, none was member any organization, nor did attend international conferences. due not to political economic reality circumstances lack assistance outreach by associations.
